Cruden Construction selects Mansell for 64-home Angel Street development

Main contractor Cruden Construction has appointed Mansell Finishes to supply and install a Metsec Metframe SFS pre-panelised system as part of a new 64 home development on Angel Street in Manchester.

Known as North Central, the residential development is being constructed for Progressive Living and will see the pre-panelisation and installation of 8,500m2 of pre-panelised SFS and concrete intermediate floors.

Worth over £1.1 million to Mansell Finishes, works will commence on-site in November 2017 with the company’s involvement in the project expected to be completed in 18 weeks. The development is located next to Manchester’s £800m NOMA district and will create 40 two-bedroom and 24 one-bedroom apartments along with ground floor retail space and underground parking.

Mansell Finishes took a key role in the design phase of the project, with specialist input regarding the design and detailing of the Metframe SFS. As such, the company recommended works on the project included comprehensive cross bracing and Ancon Combideck brickwork support built into the frame to stiffen the eight story structure.

Pre-panelisation of the frames is already being undertaken at Mansell Finishes’ production facility in Middleton, Manchester and will then be delivered to site at the exact time they are required using just in time delivery methods, a key requirement due to the tight city centre location.

Mike Foy, Commercial Director at Mansell Finishes, comments: “As regeneration in Manchester continues apace the aim of this project was to create an attractive residential development in a sustainable area. The use of steel framing has been acknowledged in the Code of Sustainable Homes and by BREEAM as a high level performance solution, so this made Metframe SFS the perfect solution for this development. And as a Metsec Approved Installer, we were the natural choice to undertake the installation works.”
