Mansell Finishes was shortlisted as finalists in three categories at the recent Offsite Construction Awards held at the ExCel, London in March 2018.
The company’s outstanding SFS works on the Premier Inn development in Bromley, London, was recognised in three categories: Best use of Steel Technology, Retail/Leisure Project of the Year and Installer of the Year.
The development is now an impressive six storey, tightly curved 130 bedroom Premier Inn development. It is at the heart of the £90m Bromley South Central regeneration scheme, a mixed use initiative located in Bromley town centre that also includes 200 residential apartments, a nine screen cinema, nine retail units, a 400 space underground car park and a landscaped public square.
Worth £1.2m to the company, Mansell Finishes installed almost 4,500m2ofMetsec Metframe over a period of 16 weeks for main contractor McLaren Construction. The build was far from straightforward, with ambitious complex shapes, a tight curved façade and curved corners all requiring a number of adaptations to the frame.
A four-floor step back was achieved by manufacturing a number of bespoke elements and the complex shapes and tight curved façade were dealt with by providing complex cladding detail and multiple radii that created a faceted elevation to form a unique and effective curved solution. In addition to the complex build, the hotel development was specified to deliver an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating as part of the scheme’s environmental credentials.
All this was recognised by the judging panel, as was Mansell’s early involvement in the design process that helped to ensure a successful build once on-site.
Commenting on the award shortlisting, Angela Mansell, Operations Director at Mansell says: “We were up against some very tough competition at the ceremony and even though we didn’t win an award, to have your work acknowledged by a nationally recognised awards body is a fantastic achievement. We are immensely proud of the results of the build, especially due to the complexities involved, and the result is a striking development at the heart of the regeneration scheme. Our congratulations go to all the worthy winners.”
