Mansell Finishes has commenced off-site Structural Framing System (SFS) and drylining works on a 140-bedroom student accommodation development at 4 Great Moor Street in Bolton.
Located in the town centre and close to the education zone and transport links, once completed the development is promising to deliver ‘world class facilities’ and is expected to house up to 850 students from Bolton University. It will offer 119 en-suite ‘pods’ and 21 studio flats, ranging in size from 12m2 to 29m2. Facilities will also include communal kitchens, laundry rooms, a reception area and landscaped gardens plus a gymnasium.
The contract, awarded to Mansell Finishes by Quantum Construction, is worth almost £1.2m to the company. In addition to the installation of 5,650m2 of Metsec Metframe SFS, the company will also undertake 30,550m2 of drylining plus 3,635m2 of ceilings and 21,405m2 of plastering.
Mansell Finishes commenced on-site in May 2017, with pre-panelisation of the frames being undertaken at the company’s production facility in Middleton, Manchester. Works are expected to last 38 weeks, however, the company’s involvement in the project significantly predated commencement on-site with Mansell Finishes taking a key role in the design phase of the project, with specialist input regarding the Metsec Metframe SFS.
